RingCentral Events provides automatic captions for Stages, Sessions, Expo, Networking and Replay segments. This guide explains how to use captions on Stage.
Important: Captions are only available on a desktop device and when using Chrome.
Tip: As an Organizer, you can disable closed captions in the Stage settings.
To turn on captions on Stage, click the CC button at the bottom of the screen.
As a result, the video display will become smaller, showing captions underneath. To turn off closed captions, click the CC button again to return the video to full view.
If Stage caption translation is available, you can display translated captions on Stage in one of 20 supported languages (Arabic, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Vietnamese).
How will I know if captions have been enabled?
If the captions are enabled, you will see the small CC button at the bottom of the screen allowing you to turn them on.
However, if the Organizer enables Closed Captions in the middle of the Stage segment you are watching, you will see a pop-up notifying you about it. You will see a similar notification if the Closed Captions are disabled.
Will captions be recorded?
Unfortunately, the captions will not be recorded. However, you can enable captions in the Replay area: Using Closed Captions in Replay.
What languages are captions available in?
At the moment, closed captions will only work in English (American, British, and Canadian).
Why are the captions not in sync?
If the captions seem to be out of sync, or perhaps aren't showing the right words, it could be for several reasons:
- Your internet connection is unstable.
- A different language is being spoken.
- AI-generated captions are not always completely accurate so there may always be some errors.
Known limitations of Closed Captions within Stages
There are several limitations of Closed Captions when using them in the Stage areas:
- Do not function in full-screen mode
- Not available in Firefox or Safari
- Not available on the RingCentral Events Attendee app
- They will not identify who said what, but only what is said
- Captions and translated captions will only work with English as the input language (American, British, and Canadian).
