Using the chat area

The chat area is a great way of connecting and engaging with others. This guide explains how to mention an attendee, start a chat thread, use emojis, post GIFs, and add emoji reactions to the message.

Accessing the chat

The chat is the default tab in the right-side activity panel. In a multi-track event, there are multiple activity panels and chats. When navigating around, pay attention to the activity panel tabs.

The event-wide chat is located under the Event tab.

To access a segment chat (e.g. Stages, Sessions, Expo Booths), go to that specific segment. It will be located under a dedicated Stage/Session/Booth tab. You can still access the Event chat at any time, from any segment by switching to the Event tab.

Note: If you experience issues receiving messages or accessing the chat, it might be due to being behind a corporate firewall, using a VPN, or a web proxy. Please ask your IT department to ensure the network ports and websites listed in our Network Connectivity Settings guide are allowed. Additionally, turn off any VPN or proxy server if possible, and then try again.

Mentioning an attendee

To mention or tag another attendee, type @ followed by their name. Once you start typing, the matching profile will get populated. Click on the profile (or press Enter).

Note: If the People list is disabled in the event, you will not be able to tag attendees.

Replying in thread

Threaded messages make it easier to respond to specific messages and help to keep track of new responses.

To create a new thread:

  1. Hover over the message that you would like to respond to and click the Reply icon.
  2. Post your response.
  3. Click the Arrow icon to return to the main chat.

Once a thread has been created, you can see how many messages are in the thread. Click this button to open the thread to review the messages and add your reply.

Using emojis

To add emojis to your message, click the Emoji icon in the message box. Alternatively, you can search for emojis by typing ":", followed by the type of the emoji you want. For example, :smile should bring up smile emojis.

Using GIFs

To send a GIF:

  1. Type /giphy (or click the Lightning icon in the message box and select Giphy).
  2. Type the keyword of your choice (e.g. "celebration").
    ✔ The Giphy meny appears.
  3. Click Shuffle until you find a suitable GIF.
  4. Once ready, click Send

Adding an emoji reaction

To add a reaction:

  1. Hover over a chat message and click the Emoji icon.
  2. In the Reactions menu, click on the preferred reaction.
✔ A reaction is added to the message.

To see who added the reactions, click the emojis under the message.

To remove a previously added reaction:

  1. Hover over the message and click the Emoji icon once again.
  2. In the Reactions menu, your selected emojis will be highlighted.
  3. Click on one of them to unselect.
