Audio & video don't autoplay

  • Updated

In recent years, web browsers have implemented stricter autoplay policies to enhance user experience, minimize the need for ad blockers, and reduce data consumption. As a result, audio and video content may not autoplay on RingCentral Events without user interaction. This guide explains common scenarios and how you can manage autoplay settings in your browser.

Common scenarios in RingCentral Events

If you enter the Stage area before the stream starts, you may need to manually click the Play button to start the broadcast.

Or click Play in the video player controls.

Other times RingCentral Events will prompt you to interact with the page to enable playback.

Note: To view media, simply click Play (when required) or interact with the page. Refreshing the page may not help because there is usually no user interaction (e.g. clicking, sending a chat message). No interaction with the page is a common reason why autoplay might not work.

Enabling autoplay for RingCentral Events

You can enable/disable autoplay for websites in your browser settings:

  • In Chrome:
    • Type chrome://settings/content/sound in the address bar.
    • Ensure Sites can play sound is enabled on.
    • Optionally, add https://events.ringcentral.com under Allowed to play sound.
  • Firefox
  • Safari
  • Edge

Note: These settings do not guarantee that autoplay will work every time, but they can improve your experience when using RingCentral Events, depending on your browser and OS settings.

For example, Chrome autoplay will work if a user has interacted with events.ringcentral.com (e.g. clicking, sending a chat message). On desktop, the user must have previously played a video with sound on events.ringcentral.com. On mobile, the user must have added events.ringcentral.com to the device home screen.
