Managing event chat

There are several ways Organizers can manage the chat to tailor and improve your event experience. This guide outlines how to pin or delete a chat message, clear the chat, and disable GIFs.

Pinning a chat message

Pinning a message is a great way to highlight key information for your attendees. A pinned message is displayed at the top of the chat, making it easily accessible to all attendees, even as new messages are posted.

Note: Only Organizers or Organization team members can pin messages.

To create a pinned message:

    1. Send a chat message with the content you want to highlight.
    2. Hover over the message and click the Pin icon.

A pinned message is is displayed at the top of the chat and marked with the Pin icon.

Note: You can only have one pinned message per each segment chat (Event, Stages, Sessions, Expo Booths).

To unpin the message:

      1. Hover over the pinned message. 
      2. Click the Pin icon once again.

To replace the pinned message with another one:

      1. Hover over the message you would like to pin.
      2. Click the Pin icon.
        ✔ You will then get a prompt to confirm this action.
      3. Click Replace to continue.
        ✔ The new pinned message will be displayed in the same way as shown above and will replace the existing one.

Deleting a chat message

To delete a message:

      1. Hover over the message and click the Bin icon.
        ✔ A pop-up appears asking to confirm your choice.
      2. Click Delete to continue, or Cancel if you've changed your mind.

Note: Only Organizers or Organization team members can delete messages.

Disabling GIFs

Note: In the Webinar events, GIFs are enabled by default and you cannot disable them. 
  • To disable the use of GIFs in the chat in a Virtual or Hybrid event:

    1. Go to Event Dashboard > Venue > Venue Controls.
    2. Under Instant Commands, unselect the Giphy check box.
    3. Click Save to save the changes.
  • To disable the use of GIFs in the chat in an Onsite event:

    1. Go to Event Dashboard > Setup > Access and settings.
    2. Under Instant Commands, unselect the Giphy check box.
    3. Click Save to save the changes.

Clearing chat

Clearing the event chat can be especially beneficial for multi-day events or events with multiple segments. It helps maintain clarity and ensures that attendees can easily follow ongoing communications without being overwhelmed by previous messages.To clear the chat across the event or within a specific segment, refer to our guide on Clearing the event or segment chat.

Note: After clearing the chat, you can still access the chat history in the Event Chat Report
