Why was my camera disabled by RingCentral Events?

  • Updated

If your camera gets disabled during a RingCentral Events live stream, it’s likely due to a significant drop in your streaming quality. RingCentral Events automatically disables video streams when quality drops to preserve the audio stream, ensuring that the conversation can continue smoothly even if video quality degrades.

Several factors can lead to lowered stream quality, including outdated browsers and network/internet issues. To improve your stream quality and prevent your camera from getting disabled, try the following steps:

  • Check your browser: Ensure you're using Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge (chromium version on Windows 10 and above only) and it is updated to the latest version.
  • Check your internet speed: Use Speedtest.net to check your internet speed.
    • Minimum: 5 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload.
    • Ideal: 30+ Mbps download and upload.
    • Use a wired connection: Use an Ethernet cable instead of WiFi whenever possible.
    • Check physical cables: If you are using a wired connection, check your ethernet cable for secure connections and ensure it’s not damaged.
    • Find a better WiFi signal: Move closer to your router to strengthen your connection.
    • Avoid heavy usage on the same network: Limit the number of devices connected to your network. Ensure no software updates, streaming apps, or torrent downloads are running in the background.
  • Check your connectivity: If your internet speeds are adequate, but you still experience issues, the problem could be related to network restrictions or firewalls, especially on corporate networks and devices. Ask your IT team to follow our guide on Networking connectivity settings to ensure that you can access RingCentral Events.
  • Monitor CPU usage: Sharing a camera is resource-intensive. If CPU usage is high, try closing unnecessary browser windows, tabs, and other applications that are not needed. If it doesn't help, you may need to use a more powerful device.
    • On macOS: Press Cmd+Space, type Activity Monitor and check the CPU tab.
    • On Windows: Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, select Task Manager, and go to the Performance tab.
