Ports

Minimum requirement: The TCP port 443 must be open for the platform to function. Ensure that non-web traffic can also pass over this port, as it is commonly used for SSL traffic.

STUN is a network protocol used primarily for realtime voice/video and messaging and it may impact video and chat feeds, we recommend not to block STUN traffic over port 443.

Better experience: Opening UDP port 3478 is recommended for improved connection quality. It is used by STUN servers, which helps establish connections between the participants behind firewall.

Best experience: Opening UDP ports 1025 - 65535 provides the best possible experience by allowing direct media traffic, without intermediary STUN/TURN servers.

Important notes:

  • UDP vs TCP: If UDP ports are blocked, the platform will revert to using TCP for real-time communication, which is less efficient for media transfer. This can lead to increased bandwidth usage, higher CPU load, reduced audio/video quality, or even audio/video being completely inaccessible as a result of very restrictive firewalls that don’t allow even TCP traffic unless whitelisted.

  • QUIC protocol: QUIC is a protocol introduced by Google that enhances web performance but is not recognized as web traffic by most firewalls. It is advisable to block QUIC at the firewall, which will force traffic to revert to standard HTTP/HTTPS, ensuring it is properly inspected and secured. Blocking QUIC should not affect the functionality of RingCentral Events. For more information, visit QUIC on Wikipedia and QUIC on Chromium.

  • Cloudfare IP ranges: Since events.ringcentral.com is behind the Cloudflare network, the IP addresses associated with it frequently change for security purposes. Ensure that Cloudflare IP ranges are allowed through the firewall. The current list of IP ranges can be found on the Cloudfare website.
