Studio setup
What is Studio?
The Studio functionality is a built-in production streaming tool for RingCentral Events, supporting up to 10,000 concurrent viewers. It can be enabled both in a Stage and a Session and includes the following features:
- An all-in-one speaker experience: The integrated Studio panel with easy access to the event and the Stage/Session activity panel, including chat, polls, people, and Q&A.
- Seamless event management: Multiple content sources (videos, slides, music, banners, overlays, additional camera), private backstage chat, ability to multiple-select speakers and content sources and bring everyone to screen with a click.
- High production quality and branding: Customized layouts, color palette, stage background, and waiting screen effect.
- Increased audience engagement: Chat messages, polls, question highlights, emoji reactions, confetti, raise a hand, etc.
Is Studio available for Stages or Sessions?
The Studio functionality can be enabled and used in both a Stage and a Session. It currently supports up to 10,000 concurrent viewers.
Since I can use Studio in both Stages and Sessions, what is the best practice for using it?
Decide if you will use a Stage and a Session for your broadcast. The Stage area is excellent for keynotes, presentations, panels, performances, and fireside chats. A Session room is more suitable for smaller audiences, group discussions, multi-track conferences, training workshops, hackathons, webinars, and teams. You can enable the Studio for the selected Stage or Session and conduct a test run there. The Studio functionality is the same whether you use it on a Stage or in a Session.
Is there a delay between the Studio and the live broadcast?
There is no delay when using Studio in a Session room. However, when using Studio on a Stage, there will still be a delay of ~15 seconds, as it uses RTMP out.
Studio vs StreamYard
What is the difference between RingCentral Studio and StreamYard Backstage?
StreamYard is an external browser-based streaming production tool. Historically, StreamYard and RingCentral Events (formally Hopin) were under one company. As a result, StreamYard studio was integrated into RingCentral Events as the Backstage area on a Stage allowing event hosts to create a polished and professional stage experience.
RingCentral Events Studio is a new built-in streaming production tool that can be utilized in both a Stage and a Session. Currently, it offers most of the features available in StreamYard Backstage. Our Product team has complete control over the Studio, enabling us to add new features and enhance the moderation and speaker experience in the future.
For a detailed comparison of the features, refer to our guide RingCentral Events Studio vs StreamYard Backstage.
Will Studio have the same features as StreamYard?
Yes, RingCentral Events Studio has most of the features available in the StreamYard Backstage.
Why are you replacing the StreamYard Backstage with the RingCentral Events Studio?
Studio provides a better, real-time, engaging experience, and adds features that StreamYard doesn’t provide, including:
- CTA clicks and engagement tools (confetti, emoji reactions, raise hand)
- Displaying questions and polls on the screen
- 1080p streaming quality by default and streaming large videos (~4hrs Full HD) from the cloud
- Upload, preview, and speaker control for slides
- Multiselecting Speakers and content sources
- Multiple Moderators and more permissions for Speakers
- Intuitive overlay system including resizing.
We will also continue adding exciting new features on top of these in the coming months.
Will I no longer be able to use StreamYard?
On March 31, 2025, the StreamYard Backstage within RingCentral Events will be entirely replaced by the RingCentral Events Studio.
What happens to events created before March 31, 2025, but scheduled after that date?
All events going live after March 31, 2025, will use Studio. The Stage setting will get automatically updated to use the RingCentral Events Studio.
Will I still be able to use StreamYard if I have a stand-alone StreamYard account?
Yes, you can still use your SteamYard account and stream to your RingCentral Events Stage or Session via RTMP.
