Setting up custom domains

  • Updated

This guide explains how to add a custom domain to your event venue and registration page and update your DNS settings.

Important: Custom domains are an add-on feature. You must contact sales to purchase Custom Domain credits for your Organization.

Custom domain limitations

  • Add custom domains before accepting registrations: Ensure that you add and set up your custom domains prior to opening registration. This is crucial, as any event links sent out earlier will become invalid.
  • Custom domains are event-based and cannot be reused between events: You cannot use the same custom domain across multiple events. However, you can use different subdomains (e.g. event.mycustomdomain.com for one event and app.mycustomdomain.com for another).
  • Registration process remains the same: When registering for an event via the landing page or accepting a Magic Link invite, your attendees will still have a RingCentral Events user account created and need to agree to the RingCentral Acceptable Use Policy, Global Platform Terms and Privacy Policy.
  • Use full registration link: Always use the full link https://mycustomdomain/events/event-slug/registration instead of https://mycustomdomain.com. Only the full URL is supported. Sharing the Custom Domain URL with http rather than https doesn’t work.
  • Classic landing page layout is not supported: You need to use the advanced landing page layout for your event when adding a custom domain to your registration page.
  • Google Analytics or Meta Pixel are not supported: For custom domains to function correctly, your CSM must disable the cookie banner for each of your events on the backend. As a result, tracking pixels will no longer work. As a workaround, you can add UTM parameters to your custom landing page URL. The parameters will be tracked for your registrants in several event reports.
  • Custom email domains are not supported: Event automated emails and custom emails will still be sent from no-reply@events.ringcentral.com and include an uncustomizable footer with RingCentral legal links and the unsubscribe link. You still have the flexibility to customize the automated emails.
  • Studio direct link is not supported: When using our RingCentral Events Studio for Stages, you will not be able to access it via the direct link. Sessions powered by Studio can be still accessed via the Sessions area.
  • Speaker Magic Links are not supported: The personalized Magic Links generated for Speakers added to a schedule segment associated with a Stage or a Session will be broken. Speakers will still be able to access the event via their registration email or by signing in to their user account.
  • Inviting Exhibitors is not supported: Adding a custom domain to your Magic Links will break the Magic Link generated in the Exhibitor Invite and disable Exhibitors from accessing the Booth Dashboard. This means you will need to set up the Expo Booths on your own.

Adding a custom domain

Only Organization admins can add and update custom domains. Organization members do not have access to the custom domain settings. To learn more about admin roles, refer to our guide on Understanding roles & permissions: Organizers, Attendees, Moderators, Speakers, and Exhibitors.

To add a custom domain to your event:

  1. Go to Event Dashboard > More > Custom Domains
  2. Next to Custom Domain, click Edit.

  3. Under Magic Link & Event Experience URL, add your custom domain for the event venue.
Note: Enter your domain without https://.
  4. Under Favicon, click Upload to add your custom favicon. The icon needs to be in .ico format, up to 64x64 pixels in size.
  5. Optionally, toggle Registration Landing Page URL on and add your custom domain for registration. If applicable, this custom domain must differ from the one you are using for the event experience (you can use a subdomain to differentiate it).
Note: This feature is only available if you use the advanced landing page layout for your event. Adding a custom domain to the classic landing page is not supported.
  6. Click Save.

Once your custom domains are added, you will see them listed on the page with the corresponding status:

  • Pending: You still need to update your DNS settings to map your domain with RingCentral Events.
  • Connected: Your domain is successfully connected to RingCentral Events.

To remove your custom domain click Reset to default. To change your custom domain configuration, click Edit.

Important: You cannot remove or edit your custom domain once the event is live or has ended.

Updating domain DNS settings

To map your custom domain with RingCentral events:

  1. Navigate to Event Dashboard > More > Custom Domains.
  2. Click on each URL to open the details.
  3. Add the listed CNAME record to your domain's DNS settings. All CNAME records should point to proxy-ssl.events.ringcentral.com.
Tip: If you need help changing DNS settings, refer to your domain provider's Help Center or Support.

DNS changes can take a few hours to propagate. Once completed, the status in your Domain Settings should change to Connected.

If your custom domain remains in Pending status after several hours, perform a CNAME Lookup (e.g., use MXToolBox or another free online tool) to verify the setup. Your CNAME configuration should look like this:
